An Indian-origin student here has become the target of derogatory remarks with a posting on web-page allegedly referring to him and a fellow South Korean
as "dog".
Srinivas Naidu, a 19-year old Indian-origin student, lodged a police report after the posting appeared on Wikipedia, a popular online encyclopedia viewed by billions of people a year.
Singapore police Saturday said that a local student of Indian-origin has lodged a police report in this connection, without naming him.
A police spokesman said the student has been advised to make a magistrate complaint for further investigation into the incident.
Naidu and a South Korean student of the Tampines
Junior College, were targets of the "dog" remark, posted on the webpage of their college.
Naidu was alerted about the remarks by a fellow
student, according to a local media report.
The college vice-principal Tan Eng Poh has expressed shock and condemned the remark.
The college staff has removed the remarks as part of the entry about the college on the Wikipedia.
Tan said students would be addressed on the issue after the college reopens on June 28 from month-long mid-year vacation.
The incident came four months after Singapore police had arrested three youth who had posted racist remarks on popular social networking site Facebook.
