Superintendent (Sup) Darko Offei Lomotey, in charge of Nkoranza District Police, has called on Ghanaians to report criminals in hideouts to the police, to facilitate the arrest.
He said that modern policing was a shared responsibility and assured informants of their confidentiality and protection.
Sup. Lomotey gave the advice when he addressed personnel of the Ghana Police Service and sections of the public at an annual get-together, at Nkoranza.
He commended the people for supporting the police to maintain law and order but said chieftaincy disputes and smoking of Indian hemp among the youth remained major security problems in the area.
Sup. Lomotey appealed to the people and traditional authorities to use dialogue in settling their differences and to co-operate with the police to combat crime.
He mentioned staff accommodation, inadequate personnel and lack of vehicle as some of the challenges confronting the police and appealed to the district assembly for assistance.
Sup. Lomotey warned that the Service would wage a perpetual war against the youth who engaged in smoking Indian hemp.
He advised the police to be disciplined and professional in the discharge of their duties to win public trust and respect.
Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, District Chief Executive, commended the police for fighting crime control in the area.
He called on the police to act expeditiously on cases reported to them.
Reverend Father Emmanuel Korsah, Assistant Parish Priest in charge of Nkoranza Roman Catholic Church, said "policing is a God chosen profession", and appealed to police personnel to work in accordance with the ethics of the profession to promote peace in the area.
