A 40-year-old mason, who sexually abused an 11-year-old girl, was on Thursday found guilty for defilement and sentenced to seven years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.
Earlier, Samuel Segbenu pleaded not guilty but at the end of the trial the court found him guilty.
Police Chief Inspector J.K. Anim said the victim was a house help to the complainant in the matter.
Segbenu lived in the same area with victim at Ablekuma, in Accra.
He said that in the first week of June 2009, at about 10:00 am, the complainant traveled and left the victim in the house and during that period, Segbenu and his colleagues were also working behind it.
Chief Insp. Anim said Segbenu asked the victim to buy him iced water, which she obliged and on her return, Segbenu asked her to keep the water in the corridor.
The prosecution said that Segbenu followed the victim to the corridor and fondled her breasts and defiled her on the floor.
The victim informed her brother about the case and he in turn told the complainant about it.
Complainant reported the matter to the Odorkor Police and the convict was arrested and a medical form was issued to the victim for examination.
