Security surrounding Dutch homicide suspect Joran
van der SlootJ tightened after prison guards learned of a possible suicide attempt, Peruvian officials said.
Van der Sloot, 22, is charged in Lima with killing Stephany Flores Ramirez, 21, whose body was found in his hotel room last week. He also is a suspect in the 2005 disappearance and possible homicide of Natalee Holloway of Alabama who vanished while on a high school graduation trip to Aruba. He was captured in Chile and returned to Peru last week.
Homicide detectives in Lima said police searching the hotel room where Ramirez's body was found last week did not find money or jewelry they were
told the victim had, Expresso reported Monday.
Criminal lawyer Julio Rodriguez said van der Sloot could face between 35 years to life in prison if convicted of Ramirez's death.
