The National Social Protection Strategy (NSPS) has earmarked GH12.5 million to be disbursed to 71 districts nationwide under its Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) project this year.
It has, in addition, put in place a planned programme to augment beneficiary districts to 100.
Ms Angela Asante, National Co-ordinator of the NSPS, said this at a sensitization workshop on the LEAP in Kumasi on Monday.
The workshop organized by NSPS was attended by 75 participants, who were drawn from Ashanti Eastern and the Western regions.
It aimed at providing policy direction among Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA's) in developing interventions for the protection of
persons living in situations of extreme poverty, vulnerability and exclusion.
Ms Asante said the cash grants to beneficiaries would not only assist them to cope with social risks, but also complement their existing social inventions to improve their living conditions.
She said the strategy is a multi-dimensional and rights-based approach that recognizes that poverty affects people in different ways.
Mr Jacob Achulo, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, called on MDA's to work harder to ensure the successful implementation of the programme to cushion the vulnerable in society.
Mr Douglas K. N. Annoful, an Assistant Director at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), stressed the need for the programme to be well structured.
He said nine districts, which include Ahafo-Ano North and South, Atwima Nwabiagya and Mampong Municipal Assembly, have so far benefited from the programme.
The Assistant Director urged the beneficiaries to be mindful about the conditions attached to the households that received the money.
