David Okraku, a driver salesman with Chocho Industries, on Friday appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with stealing an amount of GH¢6,191 belonging to his employers.
Okraku, 41, pleaded guilty with explanation and was remanded in prison custody to reappear on April 28, 2010.
The prosecutor, Police detective Chief Inspector X. C. Okorey, named the complainant as the Managing Director (MD) of Chocho Industries, Alhaji Mustapha Boateng and said Okraku, a salesman of the company on commission basis, was last December supplied with Chocho products worth GH¢16,151 for sale.
Okraku took the goods to the Brong Ahafo Region for sale but on his return he could not account for GH¢6,191.40 and was not able to explain to the reasons for the shortage.
On February 1, this year, a report was made to the police and Okraku was arrested and in his caution statement, he told the police that he sold some of the goods to customers in Sunyani on credit.
When the police took him to Sunyani, it came to light that the accused told a lie and that he had used GH¢3,220 to rent a store for himself in
Sunyani.
He also sold the rest of the products worth GH¢2,671.40 and made use of the amount.
In the course of police investigation, Okraku refunded GH¢1,700 to the police leaving GH¢4,491.40 still to be recovered.
