A watchman, Kofi Arko, was on Wednesday arraigned before a magistrate court in Cape Coast for allegedly murdering an alleged armed robber.
His plea was not taken and has been remanded in police custody to reappear on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
Chief Inspector Francis Ockom, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr Awah Narh that Arko is a watchman at a building site at Yamoransa near Agyeman Mortuary junction.
He said on Sunday, March 28 at about 0300 hours, the accused accompanied by one Kwaku Sakyi went to the Moree Police Station and reported that whilst on duty at the site, he was attacked by three armed men with cutlasses.
He said he managed to overpower one of them who is believed to be around 35 years and inflicted cutlass wounds on him killing him instantly while the two alleged accomplices bolted. The identity of the deceased is yet to be known.
Chief Inspector Ockom said the police accompanied Arko to the scene of the murder and found the person dead about 100 meters away from the building site and the body was conveyed to the hospital.
He told the court that the police was investigating to establish the truth.
Counsel for the accused, Reverend Ato Mills Graves, said his client acted in self-defense.
