The Health Directorate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has vowed to prevent the sale of unwholesome food on campus.
Dr Yaw Bio, the Health Director, said the directorate would ensure that high standard of hygiene is maintained in food preparation and handling to ensure consumer safety.
Dr Bio made this known when he inaugurated a refurbished Workers' Canteen of the university, which is a joint venture between the academic facility and Fyne Cuuk, a private investor.
The Director said the authorities were determined to avoid any incident of food related sickness and called for the co-operation and understanding of the food vendors.
Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwah, the Vice Chancellor, said there was the need for more private-public partnership to help boost facilities at the university.
Mr Paul Manu, Chairman of the KNUST Tertiary Education Workers Union, spoke of the need for the operators of the facility to ensure that their
services conform to acceptable standards while prices of food are kept within the reach of workers.
Mrs Constance Kusi-Boateng, the Operator, gave the assurance that the business entity would strive to make a difference through the quality of its
services and affordability of its cuisines.
