The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mrs. Lucy Awini, has said the government was committed to fostering unity among women of all faith.
She said the government had set up educational institutions for girls as a strategy to help improve the welfare of the girl-child.
Mrs Awini said this would enhance the public image of women of all faith to promote peace between them and other members of society.
Mrs. Awini said this when she addressed the first regional conference of the Federation of Muslim Women Association (FOMWAG) at Paga.
She said the government had realized the disproportionate number of women in responsible positions and other sectors of the economy due to
socio-cultural barriers, adding that these problems are being addressed to enable many more women to have access to income generating activities.
The Regional President of FOMWAG, Hajia Sheitu Tahiru, appealed to parents, especially women, to pay attention to their children since they are the most vulnerable in society.
Hajia Tahiru appealed to the government to exercise tolerance and use appropriate and just measures to ensure lasting peace in Bawku.
