Final year Junior High School (JHS) students within the Odododiodioo Constituency, have started night holiday classes, organized by Mr. Jonathan Nii Tackie-Komme, Member of Parliament (MP) for the area.
The MP said the initiative was aimed at preparing the students for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) that commences on 19th of April this year.
Mr. Tackie-Komme, who spoke to GNA after he observed classes at the Richard Akwei Memorial School at Ayalolo in Accra on Friday, said that about 950 students would benefit from the programme.
The MP said final year JHS students in the Korle Workon Electoral Area were attending classes at the Richard Akwei Memorial School.
Mr. Tackie-Komme said that students in the Kinka Electoral Area were having studies at the Accra Sempe Primary School and those within the
Ngleshie Electoral Area were using the Accra Royal Junior High School for classes.
The MP said that he had been encouraged to continue the programme that is in its fifth year to compliment normal school work because of the
improvement in the results of candidates of BECE examination in the area.
Mr. Tackie-Komme said 15 teachers had been mobilized for the month long exercise from 18th March to 18th April, and expressed happiness that many students in the area were gaining admission to Senior High Schools after the BECE without what he called "various interventions" to get placement.
The MP said he was committed to promoting education and he would continue to supply education materials such as mathematical set, pens, pencils and rulers to final year JHS students in the constituency.
Mr. Daniel Nii Okai, Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, accompanied the MP.
He advised the students to study hard to enable them to pass the examinations to justify the huge investment that had been made in their
education by their parents and government.
