The MP for Ellembelle, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has sponsored the first mock examinations for students in all public and private Junior High Schools (JHS), who are preparing to write this year's BECE in the district.
About 1,269 students from 62 schools are taking part in the examinations being conducted by the district Basic Two Examination Coordinator, Mr Bernard Yankey.
The programme, which started on Monday and ends on Friday, is meant to build confidence in the students towards the BECE.
Speaking to the GNA at Nkroful, Mr Yankey described the programme as the first of its kind in the district, which will go a long way to help improve academic performance of students and raise the standard of education in the area.
He lauded Mr Buah for the bold initiative to sponsor all schools in the district.
"The MP has done tremendously well, in fact, both public and private schools are benefiting from the initiative", he noted.
Mr Yankey observed that the MP has saved a number of parents in the district because their wards would for the first time, have a feel of examinations before writing the BECE.
He said the situation in the past was rather to try the school children in the examination proper during the BECE, leading to mass failure in the district.
Mr Yankey described the programme as very successful, which has saved most parents and this will help reduce poverty in the area, as parents will not spend money on their wards for nothing.
In an interview with the GNA, Mr Buah said he has declared his intention to fight hard to wipe illiteracy in the area.
The MP said among the interventions he has instituted in tackling the challenge, are annual teachers awards, sponsorship packages for brilliant and needy students, annual children's party and education of parents on pertinent developmental issues through the electronic media.
