A clergyman has deplored the high level of greed among some government officials and religious leaders in the country.
Reverend Dr. Isaac Mills-Owoo, Senior Pastor of the Redemption Baptist Church in Cape Coast, appealed to people in authority not to forget the golden rule of "loving your neighbour as yourself".
Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo said these after he was inducted into office as the South-West sector Head of the Ghana Baptist Convention, at a church service in Cape Coast.
He asked government officials to refrain from divisive partisan politics, manage the nation's resources well and to avoid undertaking wasteful ventures.
Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo expressed concern that even though most of the nation's resources like bauxite, timber, cocoa, gold, diamond and rubber were obtained from the Western Region, the area has not benefited much from their exploitation.
He called on government to manage the oil in the region well to improve upon the standards of living of the people.
Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo asked the Church to help prevent drug abuse, prostitution and armed robbery and other social vices.
He called on Ghanaians to refrain from practices that could hinder the socio-economic growth of the country.
Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo called on the people to blend the gospel with culture to help develop the society.
He asked religious institutions to undertake economic activities to create jobs for the youth.
Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo appealed to Christians to lead upright lifestyles to help transform the society.
The President of the Ministers' Conference of the Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Samuel Otu-Pimpong advised the new Sector Head to listen to the voice of God and to ask for His guidance and directions in all his endeavours.
The General Secretary of the Ghana Baptist Convention, who performed the induction, asked churches under the sector to support Rev. Dr. Mills-Owoo to enable him to work towards the development of the Church.
He said it behoves all members to work harder to win more souls for Christ.
