Huntr/X don't miss, and they're coming back — because a "KPop Demon Hunters" sequel is officially in the works.
Netflix confirmed on March 12 that directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will return to helm the Sony Pictures Animation-produced follow-up to the hit 2025 animated film, which broke records, topped charts and racked up trophies during the award season.
The sequel will be made as part of Netflix's newly inked multiyear writing and directing partnership with Kang and Appelhans.
"I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters," Kang said in a statement. "There’s so much more to this world we have built, and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning."
Kang certainly felt the heat from the global fanbase, telling USA TODAY in October that "I think the fans are, at this point, demanding it. And we are excited to see if there are some other possibilities for stories."
The film follows K-pop stars Mira (voiced by May Hong, with Audrey Nuna singing), Rumi (Arden Cho and singer EJAE) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo, sang by Rei Ami) who save the world with not only their catchy tunes but also by sealing the Honmoon, which keeps demons from encroaching on human territory. But their popularity – and ability to keep evil at bay – are tested when the Saja Boys come on the scene with their own infectious song, "Soda Pop."
Before the "Demon Hunters" sequel got the official greenlight, the Huntr/X singers revealed they were eager to head back into the studio. Speaking to reporters backstage after "Golden" won best original song at the Jan. 11 Golden Globe Awards, EJAE confirmed the trio "definitely" wants to make more music together.

"We're all individually our own songwriters and artists. These two especially are incredible artists themselves," she said. "Nothing's, like, official. But are you kidding? We're friends, and we're definitely going to work on more music together."
Reflecting on all of the fan interactions she's had since "Demon Hunters'" release, Yoo told USA TODAY at the Unforgettable Gala on March 7 that "every time you get to talk to a kid who likes it, it's really amazing. Those always stand out because they're all so cute."
She added, "But I do really love how many adults resonate with the movie. I think there's a lot of, like, inner child healing that's happening for a lot of folks, and that really means a lot. Because everyone needs art, no matter what age you are."

After releasing in June, "Demon Hunters" quickly took on a life of its own, garnering an avid fanbase and becoming the most-watched Netflix film of all time. Fans also couldn't get enough of the soundtrack, quickly rocketing "Golden" into Spotify's 1 billion streams club.
The track landed in seventh on Spotify's most-streamed tracks in the world in 2025.
