King Charles III is injecting some humor into the topic of death.
On Wednesday, November 5, the 76-year-old sovereign visited Chatfield Health Care in London, where he met with veterans to discuss PTSD and healthcare after their service, according to People.
While at the hospital, a man who broke his arm from a bike accident reportedly told Charles he now has three plates in his arm, and the royal cracked a joke in return, per People.
“I’ve got endless plates and screws in my arm as well,” Charles quipped. “All that’s left of you when you drop dead is ‘Made in Switzerland.'”

According to People, the monarch — who shared his cancer diagnosis with the world in February 2024 — actually broke his arm back in 1990 in a polo accident, but it was kept a secret for years.
However, this isn’t the first time the king has made a joke about getting older. In September, Charles helped open Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick, UK, and chatted with an elderly patient who said she was “wearing out,” according to Hello!
“I know, this is the terrible thing, as I am discovering already,” Charles replied. “The bits don’t work so well when you get past 70.”
