Ghanaian actor and filmmaker, Lil Win, is set to premiere his latest movie, Captain Ibrahim Traoré (The Last African Hero), on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Kumasi SG Mall.
The movie is directed and produced by Jackson K. Bentum, and features actors such as Adjetey Anang, Sweet Mimi, Abodie, Ghadafi, among others.
Captain Ibrahim Traoré tells the story of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the Burkinabé military officer, who at 34 years became President after leading a coup on September 30, 2022.
The movie shows how Traoré became a symbol of youth leadership, African pride, and resistance to foreign control.
Since becoming president, he has worked to reduce France’s influence, build stronger ties with Russia, and support for local economic development.
While many admire his bold actions and message of self-reliance, others worry about growing authoritarian rule and ongoing security problems in the country.
Speaking with Graphic Showbiz, Lil Win revealed that the film faced threats and attacks, as some people feared it could cause tension between Ghana and Burkina Faso. (Read I spent $500,000 on Ibrahim Traoré movie –Lil Win)
He mentioned that there were assumptions the movie portrayed Burkina Faso in a negative light, a perception that had him invited to a high-level review session where officials watched the film to assess its content.
“They watched the film from beginning to end but after watching, they realised there was nothing in the movie to cause friction between the two countries.
“It is a clean film with no negative publicity, and that was when I was given the go-ahead to release it,” he explained.
In the midst of the public misconception, Lil Win called for public support. He said the film truly represented African identity and encouraged movie lovers to attend the premiere.
“I urge everyone to come and support this movie because it is a truly authentic African film telling the true African story,” he said.
