With an industry that is thought to be choked with many challenges, mostly dwarfing the efforts of creatives, reggae artiste David Oscar is full of thanks to Jah for a smooth transition from being a comedian to a reggae musician.
The theme of gratitude is what he preaches in his latest song, Thank You Jah, released on Tuesday, April 1.
Produced by Valdo and engineered by Leety, David thanks God for his daily protection, noting that His presence in his life brings utmost meaning to it.
With the burdens of the less privileged, David recounts His numerous blessings and thanks God for a better life.
He also attributes his successful transition from comedy to reggae music to divine favour, and celebrates this milestone with a heartfelt tribute.
In an interview with the Graphic Showbiz, he mentioned that he got the inspiration for Thank You Jah when he randomly bumped into one of his favourite Ghanaian music icons, Stonebwoy (reigning Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the year), in Hamburg last month.
He stated that Stonebwoy’s career has inspired his journey as a Reggae artiste.
“The song is an expression of joy for what I believe has been a successful transition from comedy to Reggae music and that is why I’m singing Thank You Jah. Also, Stonebwoy’s journey has in many ways inspired my journey as a Reggae artiste and that is something I would like to put on record,” he said.
In 2006, while still at the University of Ghana, David Oscar was voted Ghana's Best Comedy Icon when he participated in the reality series "Stars of the Future" organised by Charter House Ghana, where he came out tops out of over 1000 upcoming comedians.
He is known for leading the GHComedy movement that fought to gain visibility and acceptance for upcoming Ghanaian stand-up comedians.
However, David Oscar put his comedy career on hold to become a reggae musician and has since then collaborated with other popular Ghanaian artistes such as Afriyie Wutah and internationally with the 2014 BEFFTA Awards (UK) winner for spoken word, Lyric Da Nkechi.
Some of the songs he has released so far are Hold On, Haters Feelings, We Are The Light, Legal Tender, Never Cheat, Steadfast Love and I am God.
