To champion the welfare of aged actors, Fiifi Coleman Productions has launched a Private Welfare Scheme in Accra.
The event which took place at Marriott Hotel in Accra on Saturday, January 4, saw a number of veteran actors such as Abeiku Sagoe, Ben Abdallah, Oscar Provencal, Edinam Atatsi, Fred Amugi, Augustine Abbey, popularly known as Idikoko, Mawuli Semevo among a host of others in attendance.
A collaboration with Hollard Insurance, the Private Welfare Scheme aims among other things to secure the future of actors who are mostly left at the mercy of public funds for survival in their old ages when they are struck with illnesses.
Actor Fiifi Coleman
According to actor Fiifi Coleman, the scheme aims to alleviate the financial hardships that often plague actors, particularly during old age or when they fall ill.
He was optimistic that with the private welfare scheme in place, the narrative will change going forward.
“Today, we reclaim our narrative, Today, I present to you the Private Actors Welfare Scheme. We are stepping into an era where our future isn’t left to chance. How many times have we seen our colleagues fall sick and watch helplessly as the public rallies to raise funds for their healthcare?
“How many funerals have we attended wondering how those who entertained millions couldn’t afford a dignified farewell?
“This isn’t just a crisis but a failed work. A failure of an industry to protect its own. A failure of a community to ensure that the hands that feed them and built our dreams don’t crumble in despair. But today, we say enough. Today, we replay or narrative. Today, I present to you the Private Actors Welfare Scheme,” he said.
He stated that actors were stepping into an era where their futures would no longer be left to chance, but would instead be secured by the very industry to which they had dedicated their lives.
“This scheme is more than financial security. It’s dignity, respect and above all, it’s hope. No longer will we love in fear of sickness or old age. No longer will we depend on charity. Together, we can build a future that every artiste can retire with pride,” he added.
Fiifi Coleman also disclosed this his Productions company will pay the premium of 10 people veterans for a start, which received loud cheers from those at the venue.
