Lucky Trip, the Ghanaian reality TV series that engages young people with entertaining education, is back for Season 3. The premiere was held on Friday, 25th August at the Alliance Francaise, Ghana. In partnership with the United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Ghana Health Service, CFAO by Suzuki, and Lifebuoy, this season features fifteen of Ghana’s beloved celebrities, including luminaries like James Gardiner, Roselyn Ngissah, David Osei, and Elikem the Tailor. During each episode, unsuspecting riders catch a ride with a celebrity, who engages the rider in a conversation about important public health issues.
The episodes will shed light on vital topics like adolescent health and family planning. “We will learn important health messages, but in a way that makes it real to all of us”, said USAID Ghana’s Acting Health Office Director, Dr. Stephen Dzisi, at Friday’s premiere.
Mrs. Mabel Anim, Deputy Director for Health Promotion Division at the Ghana Health Service, highlighted their commitment to fostering health-conscious behaviors through media. Through mass media and TV programs, we enlighten Ghana’s population about essential health behaviors, she explained.
The Chief of Party of the ASBC (Accelerating Social and Behavior Change Activity), Joshua Kweku Ofori, mentioned that this season of Lucky Trip brings together the influential voices of fifteen (15) of Ghana’s most popular celebrities. Through candid discussions and enlightening dialogues, the season delves into important health issues that impact all of us. The episodes will shed light on vital topics like adolescent health, family planning, nutrition, gender equity, disability inclusion, and how we are adapting to life with COVID-19. The beauty of the show lies in the power of “edutainment” – the intersection of entertainment and education. Educational messages are sprinkled throughout the series in a fun and engaging way, and are told through the voices of young people.
Mr. Robert Ashong from the CFAO said that the company was honored to partner and support the show. He said that the CFAO was providing the cars to be used for the reality show and noted that the cars were strong and suitable for town-riding.
Lucky Trip Season 3 brings together education, inspiration, and entertainment. Season 3 merges public engagement with health messaging in an entertaining way that motivates young people to adopt new behaviors. The project forms part of USAID’s commitment to helping Ghanaian youth adopt safe health behaviors that will ultimately improve public health.
