The Alliance Française Accra Jazz Festival organized by Société Générale Ghana is held annually to celebrate International Jazz Day. This year’s five-day event was aimed to promote intercultural dialogue through jazz music, raise important discussions, and create space for knowledge-sharing. Société Générale
The 3-day Jazz concert lasted from 25th to 28th April. It featured the French national Destyn Maloya from La Reunion, Wood Sound from Benin, followed by the renowned Ghanaian Jazz Saxophonist, Steve Bedi on the smooth sax tunes.
April featured Jazz Quartet Rukiza & the Jazz Poets headlined by Victor Dey Jr. & Nicolas Genest. This was followed by a second set from eclectic and celebrated Jazz Drummer Paa Kow and his Afrofusion Band.
To climax the event, April 30 saw the performance of Ghanaian multi-talented legend, Kwame Yeboah and the Three O’ followed by the multi-awarded Abdoulaye Nderguet (Chad) and The Bex ’Tet (France).
Jazz has been, from its very beginnings at the turn of the 20th century, a constantly evolving, expanding, changing music, passing through several distinct phases of development.
Jazz is a music genre that is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms, and improvisation. Originating in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music.
International Jazz day celebrated on April 30 presents an avenue for people to talk about jazz music across cultures, raising important discussions and enjoying great Jazz.
