Scarlett Johansson for president?
The 34-year-old actress is contemplating it, as she revealed to Variety in an interview published on Thursday.
“Maybe some time in the future,” she said. “I think the greatest way to effect change is in local politics. Maybe at some point in the distant future I will feel that calling, but I just haven’t.”
Until that time comes, Johansson will continue to star in films, including Avengers: Endgame, which is in theaters Friday. Johansson, who reprises her role as Black Widow, told Variety she hoped the film was “a cathartic experience for people.”
“I hope that it has a bittersweet, satisfying feeling for people,” she said.
The film has a three-hour runtime which several people involved with the film, including the screenwriters and Marvel President Kevin Feige, have defended.
“I feel like people can handle three hours,” Johansson said. “I don’t remember what the running time of Infinity War was. It must have been somewhere around-ish the three-hour mark. I found it to be just riveting. It goes by really fast. I think it’s OK. I have faith people can handle it.”
She joked, “Bring some almonds.”
At the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Monday, the actress shared her gratitude for having been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I don’t know what to say, I’m extremely overwhelmed,” Johansson told the crowd before the screening. “Thank you so much for this past decade of time’s been absolutely life-changing.”
She continued her emotional speech, saying, “It’s been such a pleasure to come to work every day, I feel incredibly fortunate to be with such a beautiful cast of creative people, open-minded people, and it’s been an incredible journey. Impossible to put into words, thank you so much.”
The actress attended the Monday night premiere with her beau Colin Jost, and the two glowed while on the red carpet, with the Marvel hero stunning onlookers with a silver strapless dress.
Johansson has played Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow since Iron Man 2 in 2010 and has reprised her role in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films, being one of the surviving Avengers after the events of Infinity War.
She’ll next appear as Black Widow in the character’s first solo movie, rumored to begin filming this year.
Avengers: Endgame is in theaters Friday.
