Come August 25th 2017 at 8pm, Alliance Francaise Accra will entertain audience with creative and ecstatic dance performances dubbed ‘Dance The Time’.
‘Dance The Time’ project by Felix Ofosu Dompreh of Kuyum Arts Investigation was a three-day workshop designed for contemporary dancers in Accra to challenge and help expand their artistry through facilitated movement/study exercises. The aim is to provide participants with innovative tools that will support their creative process and augment their abilities/skills to create their own new/original dance vocabularies.
Furthermore, the notion of the training was to help participants to unpack their creative intellect and assist them with tools to generate their own substantial choreographic voices. Out of the workshop held couple of days ago, resourceful, disciplined and truly dedicated dancers were chosen by kuyum Arts and Petra Petersen of the Ghana Dancers Association for 2 weeks residence of creation at the Noyam Theater in Dodowa to further expand their creative knowledge in an advance and intensive segment of the D.T.T choreographic residence.
The result of the residence will be exhibited through a contemporary dance piece that illustrates and addresses social hierarchical complexity in the Ghanaian society as well as division and constrains facing the art industry. The use of customary skill labor patterns in a transmuted manner will be the main metaphor in the composition. The piece will integrate afro-futuristic imagery to direct our imaginations into a poetic space of creative thought without limiting or positioning our artistic processes in a box.
Come along with your friends and family and don’t forget your dancing shoes.
