The Icelandic Confederation of Labor (ASI) has said that the country's unemployment rate continues to rise, according to reports reaching here from Reykjavik on Friday.
"Around 15,000 people were registered as unemployed at the end of November -- 2,500 of them were partly employed," said the ASI in a
statement.
It also said that in November, the unemployment rate was eight percent, which was an increase of 3.3 percent compared with the figure last year.
"More men than women are unemployed, 8.5 percent compared to 7. 3 percent. Around half of those who are unemployed only have primary
education," reported the Icelandic newspaper Iceland Review online.
The number of people who have been without a job longer than one year rose from 1,700 to 2,500 last month. The situation will continue to worsen
until the unemployment rate peaks shortly after the new year, it added.
