The Bangladeshi government has started "one house one farm" project in 9,640 villages across the country involving 11.97 billion taka (171 million U.S. dollars). The aim of the project, as declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is to make each of the houses in the country as a center of economic
activities, national news agency BSS reported on Thursday.
The Bangladeshi Rural Development and Cooperatives Division under the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry is executing the project for overall development of the country.
The information was given at an inter-ministerial meeting on the project with State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, the state minister said the government is giving priority to the cooperatives sector for flourishing rural agriculture and economy, poverty alleviation as well as creating employment to materialize the vision for changes of days. "Honest, liberal, patriotic and neutral people will be involved at
various levels," he said. Nanak said it has become possible to take up initiatives for implementation of the project due to the sincere interest of the Prime Minister to build a hunger-free and poverty-free Bangladesh.
Seeking cooperation of all the ministries and organizations in implementing the project, he said with its completion the country will achieve food autarky side by side with meeting protein needs, creating employment and flourishing rural economy.
