President John Evans Atta Mills on Monday named Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
Mr Amissah-Arthur, who holds a Masters degree in Economics, will assume work on October 1, when the tenure of the current Governor, Dr Paul Acquah
ends, according to a statement signed by Mr Koku Anyidoho, Head of Communications at the Office of the President.
The statement said the appointment was in consultation with the Council of State.
It said Mr Amissah-Arthur lectured in Economics ay the University of Ghana and at the Anambra State College of Education, Awka Anambra State, Nigeria.
The new Governor was the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, during the regime of the erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council and continued to work in the same capacity during the first term of the first National Democratic Congress government.
Prior to the appointment, he was a private consultant and economist.
