Six hundred members of Eburo Aba Susu Net-work scheme from Prasu, Kotokrom and Effutu Koforidua in Central Region were at the weekend given financial assistance totalling 30,000 Ghana cedis.
The money represented both individual contributions plus interest acquired during the 91 days qualifying period.
The scheme is designed to assist contributors especially the needy in its area of operations.
Mr Samuel Kwesi Bentsil, Executive Director of the scheme, advised detractors in the area to stop undermining the aims and objectives of the scheme and rather develop interest in its activities to enable them also benefit from it.
He denied allegations that the directors of the scheme were operating with juju and appealed to those who have registered and those yet to join the scheme to discard such allegations, which has no bases.
He said it was time people cultivated the spirit of hard work and embraced the susu schemes and other credit unions, which has been established to assist the venerable to alleviate them of their economic hardships.
According to Mr Bentsil, since the scheme became operational about a year ago, it has assisted about 5,000 people nationwide, as its contribution towards the successful implementation of government's poverty alleviation programme.
