The Chief Farmer of Fianko in Asunafo North Municipality, Nana Barimah Yaw Soadwa, has called on the government to reinforce the use of "Akuafo cheque" in the payment of cocoa farmers in the country.
This, he said, would help eliminate the emerging practice whereby some private buying companies use fake cedi notes to pay cocoa farmers.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Fianko, Nana Soadwa said most farmers in the area fell prey to the "cheats" and expressed the hope that the government would act appropriately to bring sanity into the cocoa industry.
He appealed to cocoa farmers to deposit their monies in the bank rather than keeping them in their houses.
Nana Soadwa expressed optimism that the NDC government would continue with the cocoa hi-tech and the mass spraying exercises to enable farmers to increase production.
