Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday blamed the U.S. government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the current world financial crisis.
Chavez made the remarks while inaugurating an international economic conference with the theme "Answers from the South to the World Economic Crisis."
Representatives from Latin America, North America, Europe and Asia participated in the conference.
The U.S. crisis revealed that the imperialism bases are falling down and U.S. President George W. Bush and the IMF should be responsible for the world financial crisis, Chavez said.
Chavez added that the IMF pretends to wash its hands of the crisis and come out as the saviour of the world financial disaster.
"The directors of the financial organization should resign over charges," he said. The president also called for the dissolution of the international financial institution.
According to Chavez, the Venezuelan government has taken measures to minimize the negative effects of the crisis.
