The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) kicked off the trading week with a cautious tone as the benchmark GSE Composite Index slipped by nearly 19 points to close at 14,854.38, even as the financial sector index posted modest gains. Total market turnover stood at over 34 million cedis, driven largely by heavy activity in Scancom PLC.
While the broader index dipped, a handful of stocks delivered impressive gains, with Clydestone and Cal Bank emerging as the day’s standout performers.
Leading the charge was Clydestone (CLYD) , which surged by 14 Ghana pesewas to close at 1.58 cedis, hitting its year-high in the process. The stock saw over 20,000 shares change hands, reflecting renewed speculative interest.
Cal Bank (CAL) also put up a strong showing, rising by 2 Ghana pesewas to close at 0.91 cedis. The bank traded heavily, with over 285,000 shares exchanged, making it one of the most active stocks of the day.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) added 6 Ghana pesewas to close at 2.27 cedis, continuing its recent recovery from multi-year lows.
ZEN Petroleum (ZEN) touched a new year-high of 5.56 cedis, gaining 11 Ghana pesewas on the back of strong buying interest, while Societe Generale Ghana (SOGEGH) inched up by 1 pesewa to 6.31 cedis.
On the flip side, Scancom PLC (MTNGH) , despite being the day’s most traded stock with nearly 4 million shares, lost 6 Ghana pesewas to close at 6.51 cedis as profit-taking set in.
Guinness Ghana Breweries (GGBL) was the biggest loser in absolute terms, shedding 20 Ghana pesewas to close at 15.10 cedis.
GCB Bank (GCB) eased by 3 Ghana pesewas to 42.49 cedis, while the NewGold ETF (GLD) dipped slightly by 6 Ghana pesewas to 497 cedis.
