The Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra has strengthened its advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV), urging deeper collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement, and civil society groups.

The pledge was made during the hotel’s Women Empowerment Summit held under the theme, “Breaking the Silence: Advancing Justice, Accountability and Support to End Gender-Based Violence.”

Welcoming participants, the hotel’s General Manager, Isaac Okpoti Adjei, described GBV as a persistent human rights crisis often buried under silence, stigma, and systemic obstacles.

He lamented that survivors continue to face blame, while many perpetrators—particularly influential ones—escape consequences.

“We must move from silence to action. Survivors deserve justice and protection, and perpetrators must face real consequences,” he said.

The summit brought together leading voices from the justice sector, social development institutions, and law enforcement. Among them were:

• Madam Faustina Acheampong, Director at the Department of Gender (representing the Sector Minister)

• Her Ladyship Justice Asare Afia Serwah Botwe, Justice of the Court of Appeal

• Linda Aboah, Ghana Legal Aid Commission

• ACP Owusua Kyeremeh, Director of DOVVSU, Ghana Police Service

• Dr. Vanessa Aseye Atikpui, gender advocate and social development expert

Their presence underscored the need for stronger policies, improved survivor-support structures, and a justice system capable of responding swiftly and effectively to GBV cases.

Mr. Adjei outlined Mövenpick’s strategy to contribute to national efforts against GBV, centred on three pillars:

1. Raising public awareness and education

2. Promoting understanding of legal protections and justice pathways

3. Strengthening support systems for survivors

He emphasised the importance of early intervention, calling for expanded school-based education to challenge harmful gender norms before they become entrenched.

Hotel management says the Women Empowerment Summit marks the beginning of a year-long effort to keep GBV issues in the national spotlight.

Mövenpick will roll out a series of workshops, stakeholder dialogues, and collaborative initiatives aimed at reinforcing the national response to gender-based violence.

“As a leading hospitality brand, we believe our platform must contribute to meaningful social change,” Mr. Adjei noted.

“This summit is a call to action to strengthen protections, elevate survivor voices, and build a culture that rejects all forms of violence.”

He urged participants to continue the advocacy beyond the event and work toward a society where all individuals can live free from fear, violence, and discrimination.
