In a press release, the association acknowledged recent government engagement with the factory, including visits by President John Dramani Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, and other key officials, but emphasised that their livelihoods depend on the factory’s revival.

“The leadership and the entire members of the Sugarcane Outgrower Association of Ghana are highly hopeful that the Komenda Sugar Factory will be featured in the 2026 Budget Statement,” the statement read.

The association highlighted several recent developments, including:

• President Mahama’s pledge during his February 2025 Thank You Tour in Cape Coast to make the factory operational.

• Visits by key government officials, including Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare and Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, who assured growers of the factory’s prioritisation.

• The inauguration of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) in August 2025 tasked with presenting a plan to operationalise the factory.

Despite a major reinvestment in 2016 aimed at reviving the factory, it remains non-operational, with installations deteriorating over time. The association urged the government to provide a clear roadmap to restore the factory and secure market stability for sugarcane growers.

“Our livelihoods depend on the revival of the Komenda Sugar Factory,” the statement added. “We know President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang will not compromise on anything that will deny us the opportunity to work to feed this factory.”

The association concluded with a message of hope and commitment: “Long Live Ghana. Long Live Komenda Sugar Factory.”
