FirstBank Ghana has donated GH¢50,000 to SOS Ghana, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families, as part of the bank’s commitment to supporting children and communities in the country.
The Fund Development Manager of SOS Ghana, Eugenia Serwaah Cobbina, who received the donation, expressed gratitude for the support.
"We are truly appreciative of FirstBank's support, it will go a long way to help us continue our work to uplift children and families in need," she said.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Ghana, Victor Yaw Asante, said "Supporting the well-being of children has always been our priority.
We are honoured to partner with SOS Ghana and lend support to ensure the long-term sustainability of their critical programmes."
SOS Ghana has been facing budgetary challenges as a result of reduced funding especially, from external sources, a situation that was affecting the implementation of its programmes for children’s villages and community projects.
To address this, SOS Ghana established an Endowment Fund as part of its 50th anniversary celebration last year.
Explaining the vision of the fund, Ms Cobbina said: "Our target for the first three years — 2025 to 2027, is to raise $5 million, and $10 million by 2030.”
“This will allow us to invest the funds and only touch the principal or interest in extreme emergencies to ensure the continuous support of our beneficiaries,” she added.
FirstBank Ghana's support, therefore, comes at a crucial time as SOS Ghana seeks to engage more Ghanaians and benevolent organisations to contribute to the endowment fund.
"We are calling on Ghanaians and corporate organisations to make one-off or recurring donations to this endowment fund.
This will not only help us now but also secure the future of the children and families we serve," Ms Cobbina added.
