MTN Ghana has donated assorted drinks, food items and a ram worth GHC 10,000.00 to the Ashanti Regional Imam as Muslims complete the annual Ramadan fasting in the coming days.
In addition to the items which included soft drinks, cooking oil, bottled water and bags of rice, the company also donated GHC 10,000.00 cash.
Muslims the world over celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr to mark the successful completion of the month-long Ramadan fasting, a feast that MTN Ghana has supported for many years by donating to the Muslim community.
This year's donation was done simultaneously to the National Chief Imam as well as Regional Chief Imams in the Ashanti, Western and Northern Regions on Wednesday, March 26.
In the Ashanti Region, a brief ceremony was held at the forecourt of the Central Mosque, where officials of MTN handed over the items to the Sheikh Abdul Rahman Zakaria Al Shoukry, Executive Secretary to the Regional Chief Imam.
Mr Simon Amoh, the Senior Manager, General Trade, MTN Northern Ghana, who presented the items, touted the long- standing relationship between MTN and the Muslim community in Ghana.
He said MTN as an African company identified with every belief, adding that the donation was an annual ritual to support Muslims during the Holy month of Ramadan.
"We want to thank them for their continuous support for our business over the years, and as they celebrate, we are going to be present where they are going to have their final prayers to provide customer service," Mr Amoh stated.
He used the occasion to express the condolence of MTN Ghana to the Muslim community in Ashanti Region, on the passing of the late Regional Chief Imam last year.
Ustaz Ahmed Seidu, the Executive Secretary to the Regional Chief Imam, who received the items on behalf of the Muslim community, praised MTN for the annual support.
He expressed gratitude to MTN for the annual donations to support Muslims during their fasting period.
