McDan Aviation has said its debt with the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) for the usage of Terminal 1 at the Kotoka International Airport is not up to US$3 million.

The company, which operates private jet services at the terminal, insists it has made significant payments and is actively engaging the GACL to resolve the matter.

In a statement issued on Monday reacting to the shut down of the terminal by the GACL because of the debt, the CEO of McDan Aviation, Kwaku Ampronfi said the reported $3 million debt in the media was inaccurate.

“We do not owe $3 million as has been erroneously reported,” the statement read, noting that the company made a payment last week and plans to resume further payments in January 2025.

This is the second time the GACL has taken such an action against McDan Aviation over a debt in the use of Terminal 1 for private jet services.

McDan Aviation clarified a separate issue involving a parcel of land acquired from the GACL, stating that third-party litigation over the property has delayed payments tied to that transaction.

“Payments related to the land remain on hold due to the ongoing court case,” the company explained, emphasising that the dispute is unrelated to Terminal 1 operations.

Terminal 1, previously designated for domestic flights, was allocated to McDan Aviation for Fixed Base Operator (FBO) services in 2021 after the commissioning of Terminal 3 shifted international operations.

Calling the GACL’s decision to shut down the terminal “regrettable,” McDan Aviation maintained that discussions regarding financial obligations were ongoing and that the closure was unwarranted. “We are committed to resolving the issue through constructive dialogue,” the statement added.
