The GrEEn Incubation Programme has awarded GH¢3 million to 27 entrepreneurs, marking a significant milestone an initiative funded by the European Union (EU) through its programme dubbed: "GrEEn Project".
The GrEEn Incubation Programme was designed as a comprehensive enterprise development package, incorporating vital elements such as business development training, capacity building, and access to essential markets and networks.
Participants benefited from mentorship provided by experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts, alongside financial support through the GrEEn Innovation Challenge.
It is also to enable them to scale up their businesses effectively.
The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Charles Abani, highlighted the substantial support provided to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through the project.
He noted that partner hubs and Business Development and Market Linkages Advisors have played crucial roles in helping these enterprises explore new market opportunities, including the expansion into digital and online platforms for their products.
“The trade shows, exhibitions, and networking events organised by GrEEn and its partner organisations have exposed these MSMEs to wider markets,” Mr Abani said adding that “GrEEn facilitated Business to Business (B2B) trips to connect SMEs with input suppliers and potential markets for their outputs.”
Throughout the programme, over 125 SMEs were incubated, leading to the creation of approximately 2,000 jobs in the regions where the project was implemented.
This achievement, Mr Abani said, underscores the project's impact on local economies and its contribution to sustainable development.
A representative of the European Union, Jonas Claes, expressed pride in the progress made by the participating SMEs.
He emphasised that while the GrEEn project is concluding, the EU remains committed to supporting Ghana in its journey toward scaling innovations and learning from the project’s successes.
“You have exhibited great commitment and resilience throughout the incubation programme, and we are very proud of your progress,” he said.
Mr Claes acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, but was however, confident that in the end, together with all stakeholders, they will be able to create a better Ghana for all.
“The path of enterprise and business development is long, and we are aware that much work remains to be done; but we remain confident and look forward to celebrating your success stories in the future.”
