Kosmos Innovation Centre (KIC) in collaboration with Mastercard Foundation, has held a zonal pitch for the northern sector to serve as a build up to the next AgriTech Challenge Classic in the area.
Mr Stanley Amamu, the Community Lead at KIC, during the event in Tamale, said this year's KIC AgriTech Challenge Classic was a seven-month initiative, designed to identify and nurture aspiring young entrepreneurs with a keen interest in establishing their own businesses.
He said the initiative offered participants comprehensive support including coaching, market research assistance, and business development training for their innovative business concepts using internal and external subject matter experts.
He said the initiative used coaching and market research tours to encourage participants to take a fresh look at the agricultural value chain and identify new areas with potential business opportunities.
Dr Issaka Balma Yakubu, Senior Lecturer and Director of the Business Innovation and Incubation Centre of the University for Development Studies (UDS), said the initiative was to enhance the practical lessons learnt by students from the classroom. He said the zonal pitch had so far helped to build participants' confidence to establish their businesses after school without waiting for government employment.
Miss Saima Adamu, a student of UDS said as a result of the zonal pitch training support, she and her team were able to establish an agribusiness for processing fresh cow milk for the market.
Ms Ruth Moiyabit Biimi, a student of Bolgatanga Technical University said she and her team were able to come up with the idea of establishing biochars and compost for farmers in the northern sector to improve soil fertility.
