The MELCOM Group, through Melcom Care Foundation, has donated stationery, refrigerators and dispensers to the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
The donation, which took place at Melcom Mall on Spintex Road in Accra yesterday, formed part of Melcom Group's corporate social responsibility (CSR) to support the police in the discharge of their duties.
Items donated to the Accra Regional Police Command were 89-litre refrigerator and water dispenser, with the Darkuman District Police Command receiving an office desk and a chair.
Speaking at the event, the Group General Manager, Francis Sam, commended the police for their service, and added that the donation was a response to a call to support the police.
"We meet here today to answer the call of the Ghana Police Service who diligently service our safety and security needs daily. As the men and women in uniform devote themselves to providing service in favour of public safety and security, Ghana’s claim to be a peaceful nation is further deepened," he said.
He indicated that peace and security were two essential ingredients, among others, which would serve as motivation for increased investment with benefits at the national level in terms of "service delivery, convenient shopping, affordable goods and services, increasing employment for qualified Ghanaian youth, physical development and social cohesion.”
Mr Sam said this could only be achieved through the determined effort and vigilance of the police as Ghanaians in general felt safe and were sure of their investments and property holdings.
The Director of Public Affairs of the GPS, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, expressed gratitude to Melcom Care Foundation for their consistent support to the Ghana Police Service over the years and for recognising the importance of their services in ensuring security.
Superintendent Obeng affirmed the police’s resolve to ensure Ghanaians, businesses and institutions were safe for growth and development.
