MTN has declared 2019 as the year of the customer. To this end, they are investing over $160million into the business to help improve the services so as to delight the customer and meet his needs.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh, CEO of MTN Ghana, made these known at a Media and Stakeholders Forum at the MTN Headquarters in Accra, on Monday 8th April, 2019. The forum was to share information on the plans that the company had for the customer this year, highlight some achievements in 2018 as well as the company’s contribution to the socio-economic development of the Ghanaian economy.
He noted that the Company deployed the 4G plus technology which is 20 times faster than 3G and 5 times faster than 4G to help customers and subscribers of MTN surf and browse at a faster speed. He said that the Company will introduce more features on the network to enable the customer do more and have more control.
On the mobile money platform, Mr Eli Hini, Head of Mobile Financial Services, pointed out that the mobile money journey started with 9 banks. Currently, there are 17 banks on board and still counting.
He said that MTN has gone into partnership with Western Union to facilitate remittances. Mr Hini said that transactions in small amounts of up to GHC 5.00 will not attract any fees. This is to facilitate payment for transport services, payment to food sellers etc. He said through partnership with some of the financial institutions, loans can be given on the platform and there are savings products as well on the platform that customers can make good use of. According to him wherever there is a Barclays POS facility, customers can also pay with MTN Momo.
Mr Hini said that MTN Momo will also make it possible for people to transfer money from other countries straight onto the wallet. He said that 139 million cedis had so far been paid as interest to Momo customers.
On the contribution to the economy, the Chief Finance Officer, Mr Modupe Kadri indicated that, in 2018, a total of GHC1.48 million was paid as taxes to the government of Ghana. This represented 35% of revenue generated in 2018. He noted that MTN alone contributes 50% of the Communication Service Tax.
The Management Team of MTN, including Mr Eric Nsarkoh, Sales and Distribution Executive and Mr Noel Kojo-Ganson, the Chief Marketing Officer, took the personnel of the media as well as stakeholders, through various achievements and up-coming projects. They enumerated among others a maternity block that had been commissioned at the Tema General Hospital and a multi-purpose library for the New Juaben Secondary School. They noted that work was proceeding on a telecommunication laboratory for the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) at Legon.
MTN also boasts of a conducive environment for employees which includes flexible working hours, a creche and play area for employees’ children when there is no one at home to take care of them and an online market where employees can buy all their needs and not worry about going to the market.
Mr Selorm Adadevoh assured customers that MTN would do everything possible to make life on the network enjoyable. He said that the catch phrase adopted for this year of the customer was #WeDey4u.
