The benchmark index moderated by 31.13 points (-1.29%) to close at 2,419.49 with a -5.94% year-to-date return due to losses in four counters in the banking, insurance and telecom sectors. Market capitalization declined by 0.52% to settle at GH¢59.40 billion.
Sector indices trended lower. The GSE-FI shed 12.73 points (-0.60%) to close with a -0.93% YTD return while the SAS-MI remained at yesterday’s level of 4,600.02 to close with a -1.14% YTD return.
Trading activity weakened, with 83,643 shares valued at GH¢55,416 changing hands from 133,824 shares valued at GH¢118,117 at the previous session. Cal Bank Limited (CAL) dominated trades by both volume and value, accounting for 37.21% of total volume traded and 53.08% of total value traded.
We expect trading activity to increase as companies continue to release 2018 full year earnings results.
