Mr Isaac Appau-Gyesi, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has cut the sod for the construction of fencing and 80 lockable stores at Koforidua Zongo market.
The GHC 5,000,000.00 project is expected to be funded from the internally generated funds of the Municipal Assembly.
Mr Apau-Gyasi said stores would be constructed around the market to help secure the market and provide extra security for the traders of the market.
He said the upgrading of the Koforidua Zongo Market was designed to help improve economic activities in the market and the Koforidua Zongo area and called for the support of the Zongo community.
Mr Apau-Gyasi assured the market women that the Municipal Assembly would support the establishment of trotro and taxi stations at the market and will also set one day as market day area.
He urged people of New Juaben to continue paying their rates and fees to the Assembly for more of such projects.
Mr Apau-Gyasi said the contractors are required to employ workers for the project from the Zongo community to help provide employment to women and young people of the area.
Mr Asante Boateng, the Public Relations Officer for Summotrust Company Limited, the contractors for the project, said "we are ready for the work".
