Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, the Minister for food and Agriculture has described the Western Region as a strategic base in the development of the country.
The Region aside its vast agricultural endowment, could boost of natural and extractive resources such as gold, diamond, manganese oil, among others, which when properly harnessed and utilized could affect the overall development of the country.
It was in this regard that the Agricultural Minister embarked on a two-day official visit to assess the various stages of the government initiated projects and programmes aimed at improving the sector.
Dr Akoto, during a courtesy call on the Regional Minister to commence the working visit, said it was only prudent that the leadership of the Ministry embarked on the learning curve to gather information after two years of the implementation of various initiatives and activities to inform policy planning in 2019.
"Already, such information gathering visit has taken the Minister and his team to the three northern regions with the Greater Accra as the last on the agenda".
Mrs Eugenia Gifty Kusi, the Western Regional Deputy Minister who welcomed the Minister together with his sector Directors, re-echoed the need for concentration on infrastructure development of the Region, adding, more roads and accesses would ensure that all produce got into the market on time for the benefits of all.
She said, "Agriculture is linked with road... And developing the Region is developing Ghana".
Mrs Kusi pledged the commitment of the RCC to ensure that all government's policies and projects became fruitful.
The Minister of Agriculture would also visit the Ahanta West Municipality, Tarkwa and Shama Districts to assess initiated projects.
