The benchmark index gained 6.78 points (+0.24%) today, ending a week long downtrend to close with a 10.27% year-to-date return. Today’s performance was led by price appreciation in the banking sector. Market capitalization increased by 0.11% to settle at GH¢63.91 billion.
The financial index climbed 0.57% as a result of a GH¢0.40 gain in Access Bank (+13.33%). Accordingly, the GSE-FI closed with a -0.11% year-to-date return. SIC Insurance (-7.14%) was the sole laggard.
Manufacturing stocks recorded no gains or losses at the session.
Trading value strengthened with 18,710 shares valued at GH¢12,636.64 changing hands from 30,267 shares valued at GH¢7,916.80 in the previous session. SIC Insurance (SIC) dominated trades by volume, accounting for 77.50% of total volume traded while GCB Bank (GCB) accounted for 28.52% of total value traded.
