Odebrecht Engineering and Construction International, a global organization and a very socially-responsible corporate citizen, has won the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Engineering Company of the Year at the Ghana CSR Excellence Awards (GHACEA).
A statement issued by Centre for CSR, West Africa, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said this was the second time in a roll that Odebrecht Engineering and Construction International had won the award.
It said the Awards scheme was organised by the Centre for CSR, West Africa and supported by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Business Development, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Plan International and other strategic partners.
Odebrecht Ghana is committed to its internal and external CSR initiatives.
The company has implemented many laudable projects such as work, safety education and wellness campaign, provided free Breast and Prostate Cancer education and screening to its staff.
To support the human resource base of the country and building capacity of students, Odebrecht Ghana, instituted the Odebrecht Engineering Awards for Engineering students in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana and also supports the Environment, Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship Conference, a biennial Pan-African conference usually hosted by the University.
Speaking about the Awards, Marcus Vianna, in-charge of Administration and Finance at Odebrecht Ghana explained: “Our company is a very socially responsible organization. We engage in both internal and external CSR initiatives in a sustainable way”.
“This is the second time we are winning this award and it shows our commitment to social responsibility values and ethics as a global brand. “We improve our stakeholders’ quality of life and promote dialogue, cooperation and commitment. “And through strategic technology and knowledge transfer, we contribute to the development of the capacity and expertise of the human resource of this country, especially in engineering and construction,” he added.
The statement said Odebrecht Ghana, in July 2016, its joint venture team working on the Lot five and six of the Eastern Corridor Road, achieved 5,000,000 (five million) man-hours without a single work accident resulting in grave injury. “Good safety education and practices with more than 30,000 man-hours in training sessions and the usage of collective protection equipment created a safe work environment for our workers,” Mr Vianna said.
The statement said recently, Odebrecht also won two ENR Global Best Projects Award, an award scheme often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of Engineering.
