Indonesia planned to increase efficiency and capacity of seaports amid the implementation of some free trades with some countries which boost inflows and outlows of goods, a spokesman said here Wednesday.
Talking to reporters after a meeting on transport issue at the vice presidential office, spokesman of the office Yopie Hidayat said that the vice president would hold another meeting with Transport Minister, State-Owned Enterprises and sea port authorities in the near future, focusing on discussion of the plan.
"The focus of the upcoming meeting is on the efforts to boost efficiency and capacity of sea ports," said Hidayat.
The efficiency of Indonesia's big seaport averaged at about 60 ship movements per one hour, still below that at Singapore of 100 to 110 ship movements per one hour and Malaysia 108, the spokesman said.
Indonesia's exports in November hit record at 42.34 percent hike to 15.34 billion U.S. dollar, year on year, the Statistic Agency reported earlier this month, Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa expects that the overseas sales to rise by 14 percent to 170 billion U.S. dollar this year.
On import, it surged by 48.29 percent to 13.07 billion U.S. dollars in November, year on year.
