The management of Wassa Amenfi Communities Affected by Mining (WACAM), on Friday called on organised labour to solidarise with people in mining communities who bore the brunt of
operations of mining companies.
"The poor farmers in mining communities are unorganised and faced with the challenge of engaging with large multinational mining companies on many technical issues, "it said.
The call was made in a congratulatory message issued in Accra and signed by Mr Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, Executive Director of WACAM on the celebration of this year's May Day on Saturday.
The celebration is under the theme; "Consolidating Workers' Solidarity and the Legacy of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah".
It implored organised labour to reflect on the social and economic issues relating to natural resource extraction, adding; "The Ghana National Land Policy of 1999 is against mining in forest reserves and organised labour should take a principled stand against mining in forest reserves".
