The Chief of Nyinahin, in the Atwima-Mponua district, Nana Amanpene Boateng Twum II, has called on the government to start the exploitation of the area's huge bauxite deposits.
He said it was time the government stepped up its efforts to start mining the ore to create jobs and boost the economy.
Nana Twum was speaking at a durbar held in honour of the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, at Nyinahin during a familiarization
tour.
He recalled the frantic attempts made by the Kufuor Administration to attract investors to mine the bauxite and said a foreign company even showed interest and conducted a feasibility study.
"The momentum seemed to have now been lost leading to frustration, deflating the high hopes and expectations, especially that of the unemployed youth.
Nana Twum also complained about the poor nature of roads running through the district and said they could not boast of a single tarred feeder road.
This, he said, makes it nightmarish for the predominantly farming population to transport their foodstuff and other produce to the marketing centres.
He called for the early completion of Nyinahin town roads project and asked that work should begin on the improvement of the Mpasatia town roads.
Additionally, he pleaded for an upgrading of the infrastructure and equipment at the Nyinahin District Hospital.
Mr Opoku-Manu said the government would ensure equity in the distribution of development projects.
He asked for patience and understanding as they work to build a strong and vibrant economy to make life better for all Ghanaians.
