India is speeding up the implementation process of various agreement, including a one billion dollar credit line and export of electricity, for the development of Bangladesh.
This was conveyed by India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina when she called on him at the India House on the margin of the South
Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summit here Thursday.
The two leaders spoke about the implementation of the agreements reached between the two countries during the visit of Hasina to New Delhi in January this year, India's Foreign
Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters.
She said a high-level delegation from Bangladesh led by two advisors to Hasina would visit Delhi next week to continue discussions on implementing the agreements.
"The two leaders were happy at the fact that much progress has been recorded" with regard to implementation of the agreements, Rao said.
The agreement on one billion dollar credit line by India "is moving forward and implementation of other projects is being expedited," she added.
Rao said the ministerial-level Indo-Bangladesh Joint Commission had met in Delhi in March and "the two sides are building closer understanding on the issue of water
resources".
During Hasina's visit, India and Bangladesh had agreed on a slew of agreements, including export of 200MW of power through a trans-border grid to Bangladesh and an accord on
sharing of the water of Teesta river.
The Foreign Secretary said Hasina's visit to Delhi in January "had caught the imagination not only of the two countries or the region but the entire world".
