Nana Amonoo Etrue, National Organizer of the Wood Workers Association of Ghana (WAG), on Tuesday advised members of the association to acquire lands and embark on afforestation programmes.
He observed that, if the current rate of depletion of the forests is not backed by serious reforestation programmes, sooner than later, stakeholders in the wood industry would be faced with challenges of getting raw materials for their
businesses.
Nana Etrue was speaking at the Eastern Regional Congress of the WAG in Koforidua, where new officers were elected to steer the affairs of the association for the next four years.
He called for unity among members to enable the association to grow, adding that, they should not allow their political affiliations to undermine the association.
Mr Reynolds A. Debrah, a national executive member of the association, expressed worry about the tendency of some organizations, who import
furniture from abroad instead of relying on local carpenters.
He tasked members to ensure that the association remained strong to enable them to confront challenges facing them and also try to be computer literate to enhance their work.
Togbe Nyamatsudzi, Administrative Secretary of the WAG, later swore the new executive into office and charged them to live up to expectation.
The executive include Mr Edward Ashong- chairman, Mr Emmanuel Awuley Okae-Vice-Chairman, Mr Akoto Danso- Secretary, Mr Eric Kwame Owusu-Organizing secretary and Pastor Samuel Amartey-Treasurer.
Other executive members were Godfred Atsu Dzikunu-Assistant organizer, Mr Samuel Okyere-Financial secretary, Mr Samuel Adjei-Assistant Secretary and Mr Kwadwo Mireku- Chaplain.
