Mr Maxwell Gyampoh, a veteran watch repairer, has expressed worry that the youth of Koforidua do not want to take up watch repairing as their vocation.
He said if that trend should continue Ghana would soon be without trained watch repairers.
Speaking to the GNA in Koforidua, Mr Gyampoh observed that currently almost all the young people who were parading as watch repairers were only watch vendors but tried their hands on the watches should the demand for repairs be made.
He said there were only six watch repairers in the Koforidua Municipality and none of them had any apprentice because the youth were not
interested in learning the vocation.
Mr Gyampoh said today's youth were only interested in trades that made quick money and so instead of undergoing apprenticeship in watch repairing they sold watches.
Mr Gyampoh said despite the fact that many manufacturers of wrist watches were going electronic, some manufacturers still produced
engine-powered wrist watches.
He called for the encouragement of the youth to be interested in the vocation so that society would always have well-trained professionals who
would offer good services.
