The state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd has launched an unlimited broadband internet service package for as low as 300 taka (about 4.86 U.S dollars) per month to help affordable internet connectivity to all in the country.
Under this new package, according to a press release of the state-owned premier telephone company Tuesday, subscribers will be able to talk and browse the internet (unlimited browsing) using a single asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) connection.
ADSL, a type of broadband communications technology, allows more data to be sent through existing copper telephone lines compared to traditional lines.
Secretary of Bangladesh's Science and Information and Communication Technology Ministry AKM Abdul Awal Mojumder in a press conference said the country's six mobile operators and Interent Service Providers have so far
provided over 5 million internet connections.
"We've estimated that nearly 25 million people in the country are using 5 million internet connections on sharing basis," Mahfuzur Rahman, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council under the science ministry, also said in the press conference.
Rahman also an additional secretary of the Bangladeshi government said the number of internet users in the country is increasing yearly by around 3 percent.
