The 15th version of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF), biggest annual event in Bangladesh, will begin Friday, a senior official said here on Tuesday.
Director General of the South Asian country's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Amir Hossain told Xinhua that this year a total of around 400 organizations, including 15 from 10 foreign countries will take part in the fair.
The foreign participants include China, India, Malaysia, Pakistan and the United States, he said.
DITF is a yearly program of the Bangladeshi government, which mainly aims to showcase local products to foreign buyers. Bangladesh's Ministry of Commerce and EPB jointly organize the month-long fair in capital Dhaka.
The EPB official said the exhibition will showcase a wide range of local and foreign products including machinery, equipment and materials for agriculture and gardening, carpet, chemical and allied products, cosmetics,
dairy products and electrical and electronic items.
The EPB official is very much hopeful of good response from both the local and the foreign customers. He said like other years, DITF-2010 will also get a significant export orders from foreign buyers.
The EPB official expects that the upcoming DITF will buck a two- year trend of declining export orders.
Export orders from the fair in 2006 amounted to 246.8 million taka (about 35 million U.S. dollars). But they shrunk to 226 million taka (some 32 million U.S. dollars) in 2008 and 199.1 million taka (over 2.8 million U.S. dollars).
